Bon Odori is one of the most famous and common dance in Japan. “Bon” in Japanese means welcoming ancestors’ souls and holding a memorial ritual for the souls. ” Odori” means dancing. Bon season is usually in August. Japanese people gather at the open space and dance together. The music should be happy music to welcome the ancestors’ souls and people have a duty to make a happy, mysterious and welcoming mood. Each region has a local Bon Dance. Therefore, Bon Dance will look and sound different from region to region. Typical Bon Dance involves people lining up in a circle. Some dance proceeds clockwise and some dance proceeds counter clockwise. All dances perform the same dance sequence in unison.

Various Japanese Folk dance groups will perform for this Show on Sunday. The groups come from Pensacola, Baton Rouge , New Orleans and Slidell.

Present Japan is a high tech country. But Japanese people have never forgotten the traditional feeling to respect the soul of ancestors. So please come and celebrate Bon Festival with us at the Lakeside Shopping Center! Everyone is welcome, and we know you’ll have a great time!

We hope to see you there!
